Paediatrics

Many parents come to us because they are looking to assess and treat their child’s communication difficulties.

We understand the challenges children face with communication and with vast experience we provide assessments and treatments for a number of cases including:

Expressive and receptive language difficulties (i.e. understanding language and expressing thoughts with words).
Speech/pronunciation difficulties.
Literacy difficulties.
Social skills difficulties (e.g. poor eye contact).
Listening and auditory processing difficulties.
Grammar difficulties.
How to initiate, maintain and end topics in a conversation.
Fluency difficulties (i.e. stuttering).

Speech Therapy

We see a great deal of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). We are highly experienced in the assessment, treatment of communication difficulties with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developing therapy goals to enable your child to gain the most from speech therapy.

What are some approaches?

PECS

Picture Exchange Communication System by Pyramid Education – this teaches the child to make requests and communicate by focusing on their visual strengths.

DIR FLOORTIME

Focuses on helping children master the building blocks of relaxing, communicating and thinking, rather than symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder alone.

The Developmental Individual Difference, Relationship-based (DIR/Floortime) Model is a developmental and interdisciplinary framework that helps therapists, parents and educators deliver an intervention program tailored to the unique challenges and strengths of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
